The Stand by Stephen King.. the complete version, 1344 pages. My latest reading challenge!
When you mention King on the forum, this is the book that most often gets mentioned. Many quote it as their favourite, a few are reading, and many more have it on their TBR pile. I read most of King’s books when I was younger, but I honestly can’t remember if I read this one.. and if I finished it if I did.
At this point, I have so many books that I want to get to, that the larger ones in my collection are rather off putting. This one is likely to take me quite some time, so I’m going to read it alongside others.
So, how about you.. have you read it, do you intend to? If it’s something you’re considering picking up, why not come join us on our forum reading circle. There’s going to be no time limit on it, and our members are really good with spoiler tags!

Unfortunately, I am not a Stephen King fan (though my best friend is and she has EVERY one written.)
I do love his book “On Writing”. I tried reading “The Stand” but I couldn’t get into it. The mini series was awesome and I could watch that.
I know. That’s like someone saying they don’t read Shakespeare isn’t it? LOL.
I was about to say that Stephen King isn’t for everyone.. but then again there is alot of variety in his work. My actual all time favourite is ‘The Long Walk’.. not horror, but ‘disturbing’.
Ok.. I’m up to page 159.. part way through ch 17. I do think that this book shows off King’s writing well. So far I’ve been introduced to so many characters and story lines, it’s almost been like starting lots of new books! But.. each one has kept me hooked, and with each new one, I can still remember the previous.
Im up to page 577 and loving it! It will go down as one of my all time favourites!
Ill be joining in with this one in a couple of weeks - I have a week off work over my birthday and will use that to immerse myself in King’s post-apocalyptic vision (it will also save me carting my hefty hardback into work with me every day - LOL!).
Looking back to revisiting this old friend - it’s been about 3 or 4 years since I last opened it and it’s long overdue another read.
And you’ll be finished WAY before me! LOL
I dunno about that - I’m not even starting it till NEXT weekend!
