A little note about my forum.. September 9, 2007

A couple of years ago, on a health forum I ran, we started chatting about books, and someone mentioned we needed a book club. I promptly started a yahoo group, moved it to a hosted forum, then quickly moved it again, this time to a phpBB forum.

I’ve always liked reading, but my tastes are pretty simple. I’ve avoided forums in the past, because I’ve always felt that if I didn’t read the ‘right’ books, or have anything profound to say, I wouldn’t be welcome to post. That’s just what I didn’t want for my forum.

And, I think I’ve achieved it. We have some wonderfully friendly members, and they’re happy to talk about all sorts of books, be it chick-lit, horror, fantasy etc.

We’ve moved to a vBulliten board, which has more to offer, we have a growing selection of author interviews, and some even hang around for a month, as our Featured Authors. Reader and writers together.. what could be better?! :)

If you haven’t visited, give us a try. And if you vsited a while ago, pop back and see what’s new.

You’ve certainly managed it well (and I’m not just saying that as Admin - I’m saying that as an active member!). Other forums I’ve joined have been quite snooty and elitist as well as pretentious and precious over their reading and I’ve been appalled at how people are looked down upon just because they’re not always reading classics and Pulitzer Prize-winners all the time. Sometimes you just want to read something totally pulpy and trashy and be able to chat about it with others, just like you would with a so-called “worthy” book. I love that anything goes on the forum and nobody is thought less of for what they choose to read.

Major kudos!

I love your forum. I think the best thing is that there’s a variety of every genre there. Most of the members seem to be as diverse as I am about music and books.
It rocks and I’m glad you thought of it.

Nice new blog :) Thanks for leaving a comment - I really like your book forum and even though I don’t post very often I pop by and read every day and have had some good recommendations for new books to read.

I love your new blog, and you know I love the forum! I’m so glad I found it, and I think I must visit it about 10 times a day! You’ve managed to create such a friendly, warm atmosphere, and I love how encouraging everyone is. I’ve also noticed how no matter what someone is reading, there is always an interest in what they have to say and an appreciation for it. On other sites, I’ve noticed people bashing other people’s favorite books, but there’s no negativity on the Book Club Forum. Thank you so much for such an amazing place!

Thank you all for the comments. However, it’s the members that make a forum, so thank you all too. :)
