An Update - New House October 12, 2007

Well, here we are! We’ve been in two weeks now (I apologise for not updating sooner), and I love my new home! :) Everything is unpacked, new curtains have been bought (I never knew how difficult it could be to find the right curtains in the right size!), and Beth has her Dr Who posters up! hehe

As much as I liked the newer properties that we’ve lived in, I do prefer living in an older house, It just feels like it has more character, and is more of a ‘home’. It feels like a good house for the girls to grow up in!

However, I have one problem.. I’m still stuck on dial-up! To use the internet, I have to sit in the hall, laptop on my lap (!), tethered to the phone line! Hopefully by Monday evening, I’ll have my wireless broadband up and running!

The removal men are in the process of packing us up, and my house is slowly disappearing into a lorry!!

Of course, I’m not letting them get their hands on my router and laptop! LOL

Preparing For Moving Day September 20, 2007

When we moved down from London, we paid extra for the full packing service, and it was fantastic! We hardly did anything.. we’d already had a bit of a clear out, so we sat back whilst they came in, packed us up, then moved us.

This time, we’ve gone for the same service, but it hasn’t bee so easy this time. For one thing, we only had one 2 year old in our last house.. this time that little one is 8, and we have an extra 3 year old! LOL So, LOTS more stuff!

In addition, because our new house has lots of fitted wardrobes/cupboards, we’ve had to get rid some of our bedroom furniture, and rearrange what’s left. There are clothes on the floor, units will be swapping contents, etc.. I’m having to make sure it’s as organised as poss, so our removers know where to put everything.

We’ve also managed to accumulate alot of junk over the six years.. every time I’ve cleared out a cupboard, I’ve found more stuff to get rid of. What with the furniture too, I think I have about half a house now!

Ooh..this time next week, we’ll probably be waiting for that phone call, to say we can pick up the keys!! :-D

Change Of Address - Who To Inform? September 14, 2007

Ok, so finally, we’re moving..and I’ve started thinking of all the people and places that need to be informed of our new address; and I’m sure I’mgoing to miss some.

So, aside from the obvious ones, such as banks, gas, sky, broadband etc.. who else can you think of. I thought if I grabbed the ideas of all those who pass through, I’m more likely to remember everything.

Thanks! :)

The confirmation never came.. the people above us in the chain are NOT happy with next week, and want the one after.

In a way, I’m happier, because it gives me more time to organise everything. However, as I type, a day is still not agreed on, and until we have one, my stress levels feel off the scale!

I just hope this house is as good as I remember.. I am NEVER doing this again!!

Nearly… September 11, 2007

It would appear we’re nearly there.. we should be able to exchange contracts very soon, and move towards the end of the month.

Everyone cross everything please.. fingers, toes, etc!!

Added: We’re waiting for confirmation in the morning, but it looks like we may be moving NEXT WED! (I’m going to spend the next few weeks having a nervous breakdown!)

Moving House September 6, 2007

Six years ago, we sold our flat in London, bought a house in Slade Green, and moved. Ok, so we did have some hassles.. we got part way through buying a house in Dartford, only to have it fall through. But once we found this house, all went fairly smoothly.

Earlier this year, we decided it was time to try again. After looking around, and not finding much, we came across a house in Dartford which we loved. We rushed straight down to put our offer in, got a buyer for here within a few days, and started the whole process off.

I knew it could get a little stressful, and I promised myself I would stay cool. What will be, will be.. that sort of thing.

Huh!

This has been the most stressful, frustrating and annoying thing I have done in my life! (As my poor friends will testify to!). Solicitors seem to pick on the SMALLEST thing, and there are indemnity policies for just about everything you can think of. We even have to take one out in case the ancient church in Dartford decides to make us pay for their repairs.. I kid you not!

Right now, we are waiting for the final piece of paperwork. For the life of me, I can’t see why it’s important enough to hold things up, but our buyers solicitor is insisting. The people above us want 28 days between exchange and completion, and yet in a couple of weeks they are going away until mid November! So if they refuse to compromise, it’s bound to fall through.. and the amount of money that will lose us just doesn’t bear thinking about!

So, by the end of the month, I’ll either be very depressed, or sitting in my new house, recovering from the nervous breakdown a fast move will bring on!
